Dellacqua, Tomic get French Wildcards
Casey Dellacqua and Bernard Tomic are Australia's two coveted wildcards into the main draw at the French Open. Dellacqua, who made her tournament comeback in February after about a year out with injuries, will join compatriots world No.6 Samantha Stosur, Jarmila Gajdosova (No.31), Anastasia Rodionova (No.62) and Jelena Dokic (No.75) in the women's field in Paris for the year's second grand slam event starting on May 22. Currently ranked world No.174, Tomic's wildcard follows a promising start to the year for the 18-year-old.
After qualifying for the Sydney International in January with three straight set wins against top 100 players, he went to the Australian Open and reached the third round before losing to world No.1 Rafael Nadal.
The wildcards are part of a reciprocal agreement between the French Tennis Federation and TA, which allows the French federation to select two French players for the Australian Open.

I need rubber bands
It was recently announced that the singles champions at the French open will walk away with $1.7 million in their pockets with an increase of $300,000 from last years tournament. It was also announced that the Grand Slam tournament is going up to $25 million with that being nearly $5 million more then 2010's tournament. Wimbledon announced only on day earlier that its singles champs will also receive near that of the French champions, $1.8 million.
This is indicating that the tennis funding and sponsoring is still increasing in activity. Which ultimately means that the sport is increasing in popularity and competition.
Good NEWZZ for the tennis competitors.

Novak Djokovic confident on beating Nadal
Novak is saying that this year he is confident on beating Nadal. The world no.1 Nadal has complete dominance on clay courts yet Novak says that "he is playing with a lot more confidence against Nadal these days". Djovokic was unable to attend Monte Carlo crown and Barcelona as he missed both events beacuse of a knee problem therefore was not able to face Nadal in these two tournaments. I have a feeling that Djovokic is feeling a bit to cocky and over his head. I think that Nadal will hand it to him and there is a reason why Nadal is no.1 and Novak is no.2 he simply is not good enough yet to be no.1 and his winning streak will end soon enough...

Nadal creates history in Barcelona
World number 1, Rafael Nadal has become the first man to win two titles six or more times by winning the Barcelona Open. The Spanish top seed, with 34 consecutive victories on clay, repeated his victory a week ago when he beat Ferrer for a seventh Monte Carlo trophy. Nadal improved to a phenomenal 31-2 in claycourt finals with his only two losses coming to Roger Federer at Hamburg in 2007 and Madrid two years ago. Nadal's comprehensive victory was his 13th in 17 matches played against Ferrer, defeating David Ferrer 6-2 6-4.
Nadal, the reigning French Open champion, has not lost on clay since going out to Robin Soderling in the fourth round at Roland Garros in 2009. Over the course of his 34-match unbeaten clay run, Nadal has won 76 of 79 sets. He lost just 21 games during the week in Barcelona.
I have an instinctive feeling that Nadal will be the greatest male tennis player of all time. C'MON RAFA!!!

Stosur wins Stuttgart tennis doubles title
Stosur has done it!!
On her impressive run of form at Stuttgart's WTA tournament, she has won the doubles title with partner Sabine Lisicki on this morning. The pair enjoyed a 6-1, 7-6 (7/5) win over Germany's Kristina Barrois and Jasmin Woehr in the final and Stosur walks away with a winners cheque of 35,020 US dollars.
In the singles tournament, the Stosur knocked out second-seed Vera Zvonareva in the last eight, but lost the semi-final to local favourite Julia Goerges, who faces world number one Caroline Wozniacki in tonight's final.
If all goes well Stosur is expected to move up to the ranking of 6th in the world when the WTA rankings are next released
COME ON STOSUR!!!

Declining Balance
Most attention has been skewed towards Nadal's some what freak performances over the past few weeks, but this has also meant that previous number ranked player Federer has become a little less relevant. He was once the most dominating forces in the tennis scene who held the number one title for 237 weeks, but lately we have seen a big shift in his performances. But perhaps we are being too critical as many believe the smaller titles he has been loosing lately is acceptable and that he really has his eyes set on the major's. Only time will tell but one thing is for sure, he is not nearly as good as he use to be as he gets closer to the fragile sporting age of 30.

Stoser through to the 2nd round of the WTA
Good news! A fellow Australian has made it through the second round of the WTA. Samantha Stoser, the fifth seed Australian tennis player, will now take on Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia for the second round. She had beaten Martinez Sanchez for the first round by 7-5 6-1 and she said that she is pleased with the win, unlike her loss in January on the Australian open when she lost in the third round. I am glad that an Australian has won the first round in the WTA and I wish her the best in the future matches.

Nadal makes it seven in Monte Carlo
World number one Rafael Nadal has claimed his seventh straight Monte Carlo Masters title with a supherb victory over his spanish rival, David Ferrer. Nadal was playing his third straight final after losing to Novak Djokovic in title bids last month at Indian Wells and Miami. Ferrer admitted that he had again been beaten by the best. "Rafa is incredible on clay, he's everywhere at the same time," said Ferrer. "He's the best player on clay in history." Nadal has ruled at Monte Carlo since losing his only match in the principality in his 2003 debut year as a 16-year-old. He has now won 37 straight Monte Carlo matches with a 39-1 record at the tournament.
Rafael Nadal pronounced himself "a lucky guy" after sweeping to a seventh straight Monte Carlo Masters title by dispatching fellow Spaniard David Ferrer 6-4 7-5. "It would have been impossible to imagine a few years ago winning seven titles here,'' Nadal said after a victory in two hours and 16 minutes, his 12th of 16 against his good friend. YEAH RAFA WHAT A VICTORY!!!

And then there was Rafa
Nadal has no reason to reflect on recent loss to number 2, Novak Djokovic, as his absolutely blitzing performance in the Monte Carlo Masters proved the doubts in every fan, player and critic. Rafa and the clay court seem to have some abnormal symbiosis between one another as he looks more and more unbeatable on the clay. After beating Ljubicic in straight sets and making the unseeded player look like he has a lot more to learn before taking on the number player himself, it seems that Nadal is far from recovering a loss but rather opening a can of worms of an unbeatable attitude. He now advances into the semi finals where undoubtedly he will further prove why he is and always be the king of the clay court.

Serena Back In the Game!
Former no.1 Serena Williams will be back to hit some balls as she has her first practice since her fourth single victory at the Wimbledon. She had an injury on her right foot on July 7, 2010, in a restaurant at Germany and later she was diagnosed with blood clots in her lungs needing treatment for a hematoma. I am glad that she is now back practicing in the field and I hope she gets better a lot sooner as I can't wait for her to play tennis again. However she hasn’t confirmed anything about her return to the WTA competition.

Dokic out of Fed Cup playoff
Australia's favourite female tennis international (Jelena Dokic) has withdrawn from Australia's Fed Cup campaign. Tennis Australia were informed on Sunday night that Dokic would miss the tie due to exhaustion and was taking some time off to recover.

This is devestating not only for Jelena but also for all her fans including me!!! After making a miraculous return to the tennis arena, she won everybody's heart in an outstanding performance at the 2009 Australian Open. Unfortunately she wasn't able to progress past the quarter finals, nevertheless she proved that a fierce competitor existed within her heart. Overall, with Samantha Stosur opting to focus on her French Open build-up, Australia has taken a deep blow in their quest for the Fed Cup.

Novak Djokovic forced to his knees
Djokovic, the man who proved Nadal isn't some sort of inconceivable human straight out of a super hero comic, has dropped out of the Monte Carlo Masters due to a knee injury. Coming straight off an amazing and convincing performance against Nadal last Sunday in Miami, the top contender has proved that he is a serious threat in the tennis world and to see such a fairy tale story end in such sour fashion is a little heart breaking for the underdog. The undisclosed knee injury has meant that he will not be attending the Monte Carlo Masters, kinder making everyone feel like a promise has been broken and his momentum will come to a stand still.
Personally, I don't like seeing the same crowned champion controlling the number one title for too long, almost removes the nerves of watching a contender trying to beat the man himself. So to see Nadal beaten and proven he is not some super natural force gives me the hope that we may just see an upset and a new champion, as long as this injury isn't costly on the longevity of his career.

Stosur Crashed out in straights
Unfortunately this morning Samantha Stosur - the last remaining Aussie in the WTA Family Circle Cup crashed out in straights sets to unseeded Russian Elena Vesina. Surprisingly, Sam who was the second seed & the defending champion of this cup, should have been able to win this game.
She has also voluntarily pulled out of next months Fed Cup. This therefore raises the question - will she be entirely prepared for the next up-and-coming French Open?? A grand slam in which she has the capabilities of doing so?

Dokic Sent Packing
Big upset for Australia as Dokic has lost in the first round of the WTA event in Charleston. She went home by losing to Georgian qualifier Anna Tatishvili 7-5, 2-6, 6-4. Im a bit disappointed, now only two Australian's are left in the draw leaving defending champion Samantha Stosur and Anastasia Rodionova to compete. To be honest i was expection more from Dokic.. Let's just hope that both Samantha Stosur and Anastasia Rodionova can do better in thier upcoming matches.

Djokovic defeats Nadal
The new world number 2 continues his perfect record in 2011, defeating world number 1 Rafael Nadal ... this is devasting because Rafa's the man. He defeated Nadal on Sunday in 3 straight sets, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (4). After watching the match I was quite shocked that Djokovic sustained his incredible surge through the tennis ranks. “It’s the best four months of my life,” he said. “This streak is incredible.” (Washington Post)
After winning the Australian Open, Dubai & now Miami can Wimbledon make him the world's number 1 tennis player??? Btw sorry couldn't post on Monday I was busy.
